2 dead in Kansas small plane crash

PLEASANTON- Two people died in a small plane crash just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Linn County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006-fixed wing single engine Light Sport Zodiac piloted by Herbert Lewis Siegel, 67, Stillwell, took off northbound from a private grass airstrip two miles northwest of Pleasanton and became airborne for approximately 50 feet.

The plane drifted to the west striking the tops of trees and crashed into a wooded area.

Siegel and a passenger Brian Clark Decker, 57, Independence, Mo., were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Frontier Forensics.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
