Former Fort Hays State University Vice-Provost,  Dr. James Forsythe, died Friday in Russell at the age of 77.

Forsythe served 36 years at FHSU and was also Dean of the Graduate School and Chairman of the History Department.

He wrote two histories of Fort Hays State , and co-authored a book on the Volga German settlement of western Kansas.  Forsythe retired in 1999.

Funeral services were Wednesday in Hays.
