The Hays Monarchs 16U American Legion baseball team scored a run in the fourth inning and another in the sixth for a 4-2 win in game two of their doubleheader with Dodge City Monday night to salvage a split in the two games.
Jared Rack led off the fourth with a double and scored what proved to be the winning run. Nick Meis allowed one earned run on five hits, striking out four and walking three for the complete game win.
The Monarchs rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but came up short 4-2 in the opener. Dodge City scored three in the third and one in the seventh for a 4-0 lead and wins despite being outhit by the Monarchs 8-4.
Cole Zimmerman struck out five but walked six in the complete game loss.
The 16U Monarchs are now 7-10 on the season. They take on the Hays Eagles Junior American Legion team Thursday.
