Ellis County Cancer Council

The Cancer Council of Ellis County will have its third annual 5K on Saturday in downtown Hays.

Proceeds from the “Hit the Bricks 5K” will benefit the CCEC and its mission to deliver financial assistance and services to cancer patients and their families.

The race will start and finish at 10th and Fort streets. Registration starts at 6:45 a.m., and the race will begin at 8 a.m., rain or shine. The tax-deductible registration fee is $20 for all participants before July 18. The day of the race, the fee goes to $25.

“All fitness levels and all ages are welcome to race,” said Paula Flesher, CCEC executive director. “We have little ones from age one to seasoned racers over 60. You can walk, you can run, or you can bike. It really is something the entire family can enjoy.”

All race participants and supporters are invited to the awards presentation at 9 a.m. at the Union Pacific Plaza. Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers as well as the top two male and female finishers in each age group.

The race is an official part of the downtown Hays sidewalk sale “Bargains on the Bricks.” After the race, the CCEC encourages all participants to check out the great deals and other events happening downtown.
