1 dead, 2 hospitalized after Kan. head-on crash

TOPEKA – A Kansas woman died in an accident just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Shawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Lincoln Town Car driven by Kelly R. Bowers, 50, Topeka, was northbound on Kansas 4 one mile north of U.S. 24.

The vehicle went left of center, crossed the lane of travel and struck a southbound 2002 Nissan Xterra driven by Jefferon Connor King, 16, Tecumseh, head on.

Bowers was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Shawnee County Morgue.

King and a passenger Jayme A. King, 21, Tecumseh, were transported to Stormont Vail.

All were properly restrained at the time of the accident according to the KHP.
