WICHITA- Two Kansas women died in an accident just after 11 a.m. on Friday in Sedgwick County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Mercury Sable driven by Irene Smith, 83, Iola, was southbound at the Greenwich and Kansas 254 junction.

The vehicle proceeded into the intersection.

A 2007 Kenworth semi made an evasive maneuver before hitting the Sable on the passenger side.

Both vehicles traveled into the southeast ditch.

Smith and a passenger Rose Maddox, 82, Iola, were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Sedgwick County Forensics Center.

The semi driver Robert Driskill, 34, Eureka, was not injured.

All were properly restrained at the time of the accident according to the KHP.
