Kan. man arrested after I-70 chase faces multiple charges

SALINA -A suspect arrested after police say he led law enforcement on a car chase through three counties, exceeding speeds of over 100 mph on Sunday is facing multiple charges.

Saline County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Mike Smith said a deputy spotted Scott Mitchell, 52, Salina, on Sunday, inside the van of someone the deputy was meeting for lunch at Coyote Canyon.

Smith said when the man saw the deputy, the suspect got out of the van, climbed into rental car he had been driving and sped away.

Mitchell was pursued through the City of Salina into Lincoln and finally into Ellsworth county.

Mitchell was arrested after Kansas Highway Patrol officers were able to spike the tires of his vehicle.

A semi that Mitchell had been following had one tire spiked, according to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski.

Mitchell, who listed the Salina Rescue Mission as his address, was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of attempted theft, attempted burglary, felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and numerous traffic infractions.
