Kansas Black Farmers Association to host grant writing workshop

NICODEMUS — The Kansas Black Farmers Association and the Sustainable Agriculture Research and education Center will team will to present a farm grant writing workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 in the Nicodemus Township Hall.

The program will be conducted by Kerri Ebert, Kansas Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Center coordinator.

The workshop goal is to provide farmers, co-ops and partners with grant information and a grant proposal, according to Gil Alexander, president of KBFA.

The program is a part of the North Central Regional SARE program, which funds five or six grant projects each year in Kansas.

“The Kansas Black Farmers Association was founded in 1999 by farmers of Nicodemus Kansas for mutual support and cooperative agricultural market development,” according to their website.

The KBFA has five goals: build and straighten KBFA into a sustainable organization, promote and fortify the Nicodemus farming legacy, provide and develop youth education, promote KBFA through outreach activities, and develop products and marketing strategies.

The mission of the Kansas Black Farmers Association is to preserve the Kansas minority farmer legacy through education, promotion of the agricultural lifestyle and collective niche product development.
