Area of downtown Hays without power Saturday morning (update)

Areas of downtown Hays are without power late Saturday morning. The cause of the outage is being investigated by Midwest Energy crews, but is currently believed to be caused by a transformer in the area.

Downtown Hays is currently affected by the outage that has effected Hays and surrounding areas.

“Several areas of Hays, and rural SE Ellis Co. to Victoria are currently without power; more than 5,000 are currently without power. Crews have been dispatched and are working to get service restored. We will provide updates soon as information becomes available,” according to a Midwest Energy facebook post.

Midwest energy reported at 11:46 a.m. a burnt wire caused the outage, repairs are underway and power has been restored to about 1,000 customers.
