Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said Stramel was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on July 18 that killed John Befort and released on a $50,000 bond, with a stipulation of supervision by community corrections ordered by District Judge Glenn Braun. After failing to appear for a scheduled appointment with community corrections at 10 a.m. Friday, Braun ordered an arrest warrant.

She was in custody approximately two hours later, Drees confirmed.

Trevor Jay Calvin, 27, Hays, owner of a truck recovered by the sheriff’s office in relation to the case, was also arrested at approximately 11 p.m. Friday for allegedly interfering with law enforcement.

He was released on bond soon after his arrest.

Braun has given the office of Ellis County Attorney until Friday to file formal charges in the hit-and-run incident.
