DODGE CITY – The Wild West Heritage Foundation and Boot Hill Casino are presenting the largest cattle drive in Dodge City since the 1800s according to a media release from the Foundation.
With over 100 longhorn cattle, the drive will go down the famous Wyatt Earp Boulevard on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 9:00 a.m. and end at the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo Arena on 14th Avenue.
Over 25,000 spectators lined the street in 2014 for the inaugural Cattle Drive and this year will be larger with over 40 more cattle to be driven down the famous Wyatt Earp Boulevard. Currently scheduled to attend as celebrity Marshals for the drive will be Buck Taylor, legendary artist and star of CBS’s Gunsmoke from 1955 to 1975, and Johnny Crawford, star of The Rifleman, 1958-1963.
“Last year’s Cattle Drive was a great opportunity to provide a true western experience to our community and visitors,” Sharon Stroburg, general manager of Boot Hill Casino, said. “This year we are bringing in more cattle to make this event, once again, the Largest Longhorn Cattle Drive in Dodge City since the 1800s.”
And while you are in Dodge City for the Cattle Drive, you can visit the Live Buffalo and Longhorn Exhibit located near Boot Hill Casino on West Comanche. This live exhibit features Wyatt, the Golden Buffalo, Doc, the spotted buffalo, Miss Kitty & Miss Belle, both brown buffaloes, and their Longhorn friends, He-man and Tex.
In addition to the Cattle Drive, through Aug. 2, spectators can experience rich cowboy heritage at the 2015 PRCA Roundup Rodeo. Known as the greatest show on dirt, this six-day, action-packed event has cowboys and cowgirls from all over the world competing to take home a buckle.
