GREAT BEND – Law enforcement officials in Barton County are investigating an attack by a dog that seriously injured a woman.
Police in Great reported in a media release that just before 4 p.m. on Friday emergency medical responders and officers responded to a house in the 2800 block of 17th Street in Great Bend in reference to a dog bite.
Upon arrival, officers found that a woman who lived at the residence had suffered significant injuries from being attacked by a pit-bull type dog, which belonged to her live-in boyfriend.
The woman was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital by EMS but was later flown to a hospital in Wichita to be treated for her injuries.
The dog was impounded and euthanized, at the request of the owner.
Charges will likely be forthcoming, according to police.
