Strong Finish To First Half Leads FHSU Women Past Southwest Baptist

The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers closed out the first half on 13-4 run to build a 13-point over Southwest Baptist at the half and go on to defeat the Bearcats 64-55 Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum.

After SBU scored the first five points to start the second half, the Tiger respond with a 13-2 run to go up 19 with 12:29 to play. The Tigers led by as many as 21 in the second half.

Fort Hays State missed all of their ten shots in the final 5:06 of the game allowing the Bearcats to close the game on a 13-1 run.

Traci Keyser led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. Melissa Nelson scored 12 with Kate Edwards and Kaiameka Brown both adding 10. Kate Lehman added eight points and eight rebounds

FHSU shot 39-percent from the floor including 6-of-21 from 3-point range but outrebound SBU 41-30. The Tigers had 15 offensive rebounds while holding the Bearcats to four.

The Tigers improve to 13-2 and 5-2 in the MIAA. They are back at home Monday to play Missouri Southern at 5:30pm.
