HUTCHINSON – Law enforcement authorities in Reno County are investigating an officer involved shooting
Hutchinson Police reported in a media release that officers responded to 903 East Ave. C just before 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday after the report of a disturbed subject.
Police say the suspect identified as Joseph Ramon, 23, was threatening his father at that residence and had fled on foot.
Ramon could not be located. Officers reported the incident and left the area.
A few hours later officers were sent to the same address again after the suspect returned to the residence.
When officers arrived on scene they found Ramon in the garage of the residence. The suspect pointed a shotgun at the officers forcing their retreat.
Ramon eventually shot a hole through the garage door, placed the barrel of the shotgun through the hole and fired several more times near the officers.
The suspect then immediately pointed the shotgun directly at the officers at which time the officers were forced to fire upon the suspect.
Seconds later Ramon opened the garage door and came out unarmed. Officers placed him into custody without further incident.
Ramon was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his hand. There were no injuries to anyone else, including officers.
A full investigation of this incident is underway by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation
