Hays High Boys Lose 42-39 To Rival Great Bend

Hays High hit three of their first four 3-point attempts and opened with an 11-2 over rival Great Bend Tuesday night at the Hays High gym, but the Indians would cool off and eventually lose to the Panthers 42-39.

Great Bend fought back to tied the game at 21 at the half.

The Indians had the ball six times down 38-37 but couldn’t score. They then missed a free throw with the game tied at 39.

After fouling seven times in 12 seconds to get the Panthers to the bonus, Great Bend’s Jace Bowman hits two free throws and the Indians never got a clean look at the final three point attempt at the horn.

Derek Bixenman scored a career high 21, Jordan Windholz set a career mark with 11 to lead Hays who was 8-of-28 from 3-point range and shot just 33-percent for the game. Hays drops to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Great Bend snaps a six game losing streak and is also 1-1 in the WAC.
