The Fort Hays State Tigers nearly blew an 11-point second half lead, but score the final six points in overtime to defeat the Emporia State 72-67 Wednesday night in Emporia.
The Tigers led 46-35 with 14:27 to play, but the Hornets battled back to tie the game at 62. Fort Hays had a chance to win in regulation but a shot from Kendrick Morse rimmed out at the horn.
ESU would take their first lead since early in the game on an Antonio DiMaria 3-pointer, but the Tigers score the final six of the extra period for the win.
The Tigers hit six 3-pointers in the first half including one from Moses Dayee in the final seconds of the first half to lead 33-27 at the break. They trailed by five early but answered with a 10-0 run and led by as many eight in the first frame.
FHSU shoots 46-percent for the gmae and were 10-of-20 from 3-point range but just 14-of-22 from the free throw line. Moses Dayee led the Tigers with 15 points and six assists, Tyrone Phillips added 14, Karron McKenzie 12 and Omar McDade 11.
The win improves the Tigers to 12-4 and 6-4 in the MIAA. The Hornets fall to 8-8 and 4-6 in the conference.
