JanSport co-founder will be remembered at memorial

GREAT BEND — Great Bend High School Hall of Fame member Skip Yowell passed away in October, and a celebration of life will be held in his memory on Thursday, November 12th from 5-7 p.m. at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center.

Yowell, a Hays native, was the co-founder of JanSport and an inventor of outdoor mountain climbing products. His book, “The Hippie Guide to Climbing the Corporate Ladder and Other Mountains,” has inspired people all over the world.

Skip was a great friend to his hometown of Great Bend, speaking at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet in 2008 and visiting frequently to speak to local students. We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Skip’s family, and recognize one last time the many contributions this Great Bend native made to our community and the world.
