KFIX Rock News: Postponed U2 Concert Special Airs Tonight on HBO

u2mainThe HBO concert special U2: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Live in Paris, which was postponed in the wake of last month’s terrorist attacks in the French capital, premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.

The program will showcase what now is scheduled to be the final show of U2‘s 2015 tour, taking place December 7 at Paris’ AccorHotels Arena, formerly the Bercy Arena.

Fans can expect to see the Irish rockers play a set of tunes spanning their entire career, from the band’s 1980 debut Boy through its most recent album, 2014’s Songs of Innocence.

U2’s iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour performances have been featuring a uniquely designed multimedia stage setup that includes movable, floor-to-ceiling LED screens and a catwalk that stretches across the arena.

The stage allows the band members to move all around each venue they’ve been playing, while the screens display a variety of specially created video presentations.

U2: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Live in Paris is being directed by Hamish Hamilton, who has worked on several of the band’s concert videos, including Elevation: Live from Boston, U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castleand Vertigo in 2005: Live from Chicago.

In an HBO Q&A conducted last month, Hamilton discussed how he hoped to help bring the experience of seeing the show in person to a television audience.

“It’s a case of tailoring the experience that was created for all the fans in the arena into a comparable experience for the people at home,” said the director.

“To take it one step further, we have a few surprises in store for the people at home that will create a unique show for them as well.  It’s very much a collaboration at every stage of production to make sure the experience for everyone at home is just as good, if not better.”

Following the special’s premiere, multiple encore screenings will be viewable on HBO and HBO2 throughout December, and the program also will be available on demand starting on Tuesday, December 8.  The show also will be viewable on HBO Go and HBO Now simultaneously with its cable TV premiere.

U2: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Live in Paris originally was scheduled to air November 14, but that concert and the band’s November 15 show at the AccorHotels Arena were moved, respectively, to December 7 and December 6 following the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.
