Top-ranked Tiger women come up short at SBU

BOLIVER, Mo. – Southwest Baptist hit seven of their final eight free throws in the final minute as they hand the top-ranked Fort Hays State women their first loss of the season, 82-71 Saturday afternoon at the Meyer Sports Center. The Tigers fall to 10-1 and 4-1 in the MIAA while the Bearcats improve to 6-4 and 2-3.

The Bearcats led most of the way, scoring 27 points in the first quarter and 24 in the fourth to end a six-game losing streak to the Tigers.

Jill Faxon hit six of Fort Hays State’s 10 three-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points. Chelsea Mason hit four three-pointers and scored 16 while Beth Bohuslavsky added 11.

The Bearcats had five score in double-figures led by Mackenzie Skupa’s 17 points. Hesston native Caylee Richardson scored 10 and had 12 rebounds.

SBU shot 54-percent from the floor and hit 22 of their 26 free throw attempts. FHSU shot 35-percent for the game including 10 of 25 from 3-point range.
