Ronald Selensky

Selensky, Ron Pic croppedRonald Selensky, age 71, of Quinter, passed away, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. He was born December 25, 1943, in rural Gove County, to Adam Fred and Clara Marie (Ziegler) Selensky.

Ron was a 1962 graduate of Park High School. He was united in marriage on January 23, 1965, in Park, to Iona Phyllis Goetz. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together. Ron was an area farmer and rancher most of his life. He and family worked tireless hours keeping up with the daily life of raising crops and tending to the cattle. His dedication and work ethic were known by many. Ron was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Park. He earned the distinction of 3rd Degree Knight. He was an avid hunter of most any game, enjoyed trapshooting, and was a member of the NRA. Ron was a dedicated sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching and following baseball and basketball. For over 35 years, he volunteered his time keeping score at basketball games for Wheatland High School. He loved to collect coins. One of his favorite activities was getting together with family, especially during the Christmas season. He absolutely cherished his children and grandchildren. Ron was respected and loved as a husband, a father, a grandfather, and as a friend by many.

Survivors include his wife, of the family home; two sons, Curtis and wife Teresa, and Kelly and wife Jynette, all of Park; two daughters, Lynn and husband Chris Schrader of Benkelman, Nebraska, and Julie and husband Tim Hall of Dodge City; daughter-in-law, Cassie Selensky of Park; fourteen grandchildren, Gavin, Kendrik, and Samuel Selensky, Carter and Breckyn Selensky, Kasha and Kamie Rash, and Tallan Schrader, Chelsie and Nicole Hall, and Blake, Carson, Kelsey and Cole Selensky; a brother, Robert Selensky of Grainfield; and two sisters, Vivian Goetz of Dodge City, and Virginia Wessel of Grainfield. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Greg; a brother, Norbert; a brother-in-law, Bob Wessel; and a sister-in-law, Sheila Selensky.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Park. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00, with a parish vigil service beginning at 7:00, all at the funeral home in Quinter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ron Selensky Memorial fund or Masses. Checks made to the fund may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
