Late First Half Run Lifts Northwest Missouri Past Fort Hays State

Northwest Missouri State closed the first half on a 13-2 run to build a 13-point halftime lead and snap the Fort Hays State Tigers three-game win streak with a 74-57 victory Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Arena in Maryville.

The Tigers hit just two of their first 12 shots and fell behind by 10, but used 3-pointers from Lance Russell and Moses Dayee to pull within two with just under five minutes to play in the half.

The Tigers never were never closer than nine in the second half.

FHSU shot 37-percent from the floor (18-49) but hit 41-percent from beyond the arc (9-22) and hit 12-15 free throws. Northwest shot 52-percent (27-52), hit 8-of-17 from 3-point range and outrebounded the Tigers by six.

The Tigers drop to 13-5 and 7-5 in the MIAA. The Bearcats improve to 15-3 and 9-3 in the MIAA.
