Typically, a business grand opening involves a ribbon cutting, a few quick speeches and maybe refreshments.

The Platinum Group, 116 E. 11th, however, is doing things a bit bigger.

On Friday, festivities will commence at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting and brick presentation.

The Platinum Group has operated out of the renovated space on 11th Street since opening in January. Owned and operated by Adam Pray, the group works to help sell residential real estate in the Hays area.

After the ribbon cutting, in a parking lot across the street the Hays Community Theatre, a group that shares the building with the Platinum Group, will host a karaoke contest in an outdoor beer garden provided by Lb. Brewing, 117 E. 11th.

Prizes for the contest include a top prize of $150, a second prize of $100 and a third prize of four tickets to the Theatre’s production of “Shrek: The Musical.”

Following the contest, Andy Sydow will perform from 7 to 9 p.m.

In conjunction with the events, the group will have prize drawings every 30 minutes, with a top prize of a 30-minute plane ride around Ellis County.
