HHS baseball splits games in Derby

DERBY, Kan. – The Hays High baseball team split their two games at the Derby Triangular Tuesday. The Indians lost to the host Panthers 5-2 but bounced back with a 19-0 win over Valley Center.

Derby broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth inning then added another run in the sixth. Hays rallied with two in the seventh but could get no closer. Marcus Altman allowed four runs on eight hits over four innings and suffered the loss. Connor Rule had two of the Indians six hits and drove in a run.

The Indians jumped out early against Valley Center. The scored three in the first, six in the second, two in the third then eight in the fourth. The game was called after four innings by run-rule.

Hays pounded out 20 hits against the Hornets, led by Marcus Altman who went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cole Schumacher, Connor Rule and Dalton Stout all had three hits. Stout drove in four runs. Cole Schumacher allowed one hit while striking out four and walking one for the win.
