At around 12:20 p.m. Saturday the Hays Police Department responded to a call for a welfare check at Motel 6, 3404 Vine St.

Police made entry into a room at the motel and found the sole occupant had died according to Don Scheibler, Hays Chief of Police.

HPD officers and the Ellis County Coroner’s office investigated the scene and determined the death to be natural causes.

The Hays Fire Department assisted during the investigation.
