Americans lose roughly $100 billion gambling each year, and with fans expected to wager more than $100 million on this weekend’s Kentucky Derby, the personal-finance website WalletHub has released an in-depth report on 2016’s Most Gambling-Addicted States as well as a collection of fun facts about the first leg of the Triple Crown.
In order to determine the states where the gambling problem is most prevalent, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states across 13 key metrics. The data set ranges from “presence of illegal gambling operations” to “lottery sales per capita” to “percentage of people with gambling disorders.”
