Larks battle back after blowing lead to beat Haysville

HAYSVILLE, Kan. – Jax Biggers eighth inning single scored Ty Redington to break a 6-all tie and lift the Hays Larks to a 9-6 win over the Haysville Aviatiors Saturday night in Haysville. Mike Mioduszewski and Garrett McKenzie both drove in insurance runs in the top of the ninth to lead Hays to their second Jayhawk League series win and hand Haysville their second straight loss following their five-game win streak.

The Larks  (8-1, 4-1 JL) built an early 5-2 lead but the Aviators (5-3, 2-3 JL) battled back to go up 6-5 after six innings. Hays answered with single runs in the seventh and eighth, then added the two in the ninth.

Starter D.J. Carr allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Chad Smith (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win. Ben Cilano allowed a hit and a walk but struck out two in the ninth inning for his first save.

Austin O’Brien went 2-for-5 with a double and drove in three runs. Mioduszewski homered for a second straight game and drove in two.

The Larks and Aviators close out the series Sunday night in Haysville.
