HAYS, Kan. – The Hays Monarchs Junior American Legion baseball team split their doubleheader with Lincoln Wednesday at the TMP Sports Complex. The Monarchs won the opener 13-2 but fall in the nightcap 11-10.

Hays led 10-3  after four innings in the second game but couldn’t overcome six errors as Lincoln scored four in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the lead. Cole Zimmerman takes the loss, allowing four unearned runs on four hits over three innings of relief. Tate Garcia drives in three on two hits and Adam Gottschalk knocked in two on three hits.

The Monarchs use a two-run double from Carlos Schwindt and three-run homer from Luke Ruder to score seven times in the second inning of the first game which was called after four innings by run-rule. Zane Staab and Brayden Mader both had two hits while Schwindt drove in three. Luke Ruder pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

The Monarchs are now 9-3 heading into a tournament in Overton, Neb. this weekend.
