GIRLS: TMP-Marian 34, Hoisington 26
The Lady Monarchs basketball team earned their 9th straight league title Tuesday night with a 34-26 victory over Hoisington at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
Hoisington (13-5) led 4-0 early on, but Thomas More Prep – Marian went on an 18-5 run to finish off the first quarter. TMP allowed the Lady Cardinals to get within four midway through the fourth quarter at 28-24 but finished the game on a 6-2 run.
TMP, who has won seven straight games now, caught a big break when Hoisington’s Mallory Flagor fouled out of the ballgame early on in the fourth quarter. Flagor, the 5’11” senior, scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half.
Senior Rachel Jacobs ended the night with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Allison Pfeifer added an individual season-high 6 points.
TMP improves their overall record to 14-3 and goes to 6-0 in conference play for their second straight Mid-Central Activities Association title.

BOYS: Hoisington 53, TMP-Marian 48
An electric start was not enough for the Thomas More Prep – Marian boys’ basketball team Tuesday night as they dropped a 53-48 ballgame to Hoisington at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
The Monarchs spurted out to 12-2 lead to begin the game and took a 28-22 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals (14-4) went on a 12-2 run of their own though to start the second half and led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter.
TMP (10-7) got the score within three at 51-48 after senior Taylor Pfeifer converted a three-point play. Pfeifer finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
After forcing a Hoisington turnover, TMP had a chance to tie it with a Jacob Fouts’ 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds to go but Fouts’ shot was off the mark and the Cardinals hit two free throws to seal the victory. Fouts scored a team-high 15 points.
Hoisington’s Derrick Kaiser went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and ended with 26 points. The Cardinal 6’8” junior, Cody Stetler, added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Next up for TMP will be another home game against the Cimarron Blue Jays this Friday night.
