The Thomas More Prep – Marian girls’ basketball team had a slow start Monday night in Hays against Scott City but went on to win 61-43.
The Lady Beavers jumped out to a 10-2 lead to begin the game with TMP’s Jenna Lang on the bench. Lang didn’t start in her final game at Al Billinger Fieldhouse because of a sprained ankle she suffered last Friday against Cimarron. Lang came into the ballgame midway through the first quarter hit a three and helped the Lady Monarchs settle down.
TMP (16-3) held a three-point lead at halftime before taking over in the second half. The Lady Monarchs outscored Scott City 18-4 in the third quarter to put away the Beavers (5-14).
TMP, who has won nine straight games, received 19 points from Heather Ruder and an individual season-high 13 from Rebecca Pray.
The Lady Monarchs finished the season a perfect 7-0 on their home court this year. TMP, who has locked in the #1 seed for the Lyons Sub-State next week, will complete the regular season on the road against Trinity this Thursday.
