
SALINE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities in Saline County are investigating a suspect for alleged drug possession and sales.
Police arrested Rachad Austin, 25, Salina on Monday as a result of a search warrant following a shooting according to Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney.
Just after 10:30 p.m. on October 5, Austin was shot in a gunfight while he was standing on the front porch of a residence in the 3200 Block of Royal Street.
He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Shortly after the shooting, investigators executed a search warrant at the residence after detecting a strong odor of marijuana.
Sweeney said several bags of marijuana packaged for sale were found inside the residence. Investigators also found a bag of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine as well as several digital scales.
Austin was booked into the Saline County Jail on several requested charges including possession of marijuana and cocaine with the intent to sell within 1000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Sweeney.
