Ronald E. ‘Ron’ and Alfreda J. ‘Freda’ Broetzmann

Hays, Kansas – Ronald E. “Ron” Broetzmann, age 79, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, at his home. He was born February 22, 1937, in Pierre, South Dakota to Elmer and Lavina (Reed) Broetzmann.

Alfreda J. “Freda” Broetzmann died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at her home. She was born September 25, 1938, in Schaffer, Kansas to Phillip and Esther (Tittel) Foos.

Ronald and Alfreda were married on May 27, 1956, in Holyrood, Kansas. They attended the Presbyterian church and moved to Hays in 2011.

Ron was a police officer for over 25 years working in Liberal, Great Bend, as a detective at Garden City and a Chief of Police at Goodland. After his police work, he was an insurance adjustor

at Farm Bureau in Pratt for ten years and retired in 1995. He received Policeman of the Year in Garden City and an accommodation from the FBI. Ron grew up in Holyrood and was a graduate of Holyrood High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served from 1956 to 1959. He enjoyed woodworking and his coffee group.

Freda was a bookkeeper at the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department in Pratt, for ten years. She grew up in Great Bend, a graduate of Great Bend High School. She enjoyed reading and cooking. They both enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Blau-Erickson and husband, Ken, Russell, KS; Lori Hertel and husband, Stan, Hays, KS; three grandchildren, Joshua Blau and wife, Stacy; Chelsee Hoffman and husband, Danny and Daniel Hertel; two great grandchildren, Bailee and Landry Hoffman; Ron has two sisters, Betty Perrin, Bull Shoals, AK; and Marilyn Wormeringer, Shawnee, OK; and Alfreda has one sister, Jean Smith, Hays, KS.

They are preceded in death by their parents; one son, Ronald Craig Broetzmann; one grandson, Steven Lee Hertel; one granddaughter, Ana Hertel and Alfreda’s brother, Bud Foos.

Services are at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. Burial at Mount Allen Cemetery Hays, Kansas with military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 7690.

Visitation is from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
