B-17 flights canceled due to unscheduled maintenance

A maintenance worker repairs a turbo on the B-17 Sentimental Journey Saturday at Hays Regional Airport.

Flights of the B-17 Sentimental Journey out of Hays Regional Airport had to be canceled today due to unscheduled maintenance.

During a preflight check, the crew discovered a turbo on one of the left engines was not functioning properly.

Flights were suspended while mechanics repaired the turbo.

The Commemorative Air Force still conducted flights of its P-51 Gunfighter and C-47 Skytrain cargo plane as scheduled.

A member of the crew said he anticipated the repairs would be made in Hays and the plane would be able to fly out of the Hays airport.
