Hays Eagles go 3-2 in season opening tournament; Jr. Eagles 0-5

BUHLER, Kan. – The Hays Eagles Senior American Legion finished up 3-2 over the weekend at the Next Level Showcase in Buhler. After beating the Wichita Sluggers 3-0 then losing to the Aeros 18 14-2 on Friday, they beat the Hutchinson Colts 9-1 then lost to 316 Elite Lienhard 10-0 Saturday. Sunday, the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Black Diamonds 5-4.

Grant Coffman doubled to drive in Palmer Hutchison with the go ahead run with one out. Hutchison tied the game with a double that scored Willie Sennett one batter earlier.

Nick Fisher earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief. Trey Riggs got the last three outs in the seventh for the save.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow night with a doubleheader in Dodge City.

The Hays Junior Legion goes 0-5 at the same tournament. The Junior Eagles gave up four in the bottom of the sixth and lost on a walkoff RBI single up the middle in their final game against 316 Elite 12-11. The Junior Eagles host Dodge City Tuesday night at Larks Park.
