HAYS – The Liberal Bee Jays used a six-run second inning to beat the Hays Larks 12-5 Sunday as they take two-of-three in the weekend series with the Larks in Hays.
Liberal jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the first and six more in the second to go up 9-0 through two innings.
Larks starter Peyton Battenfield struggled in his Hays debut allowing all nine runs in just an inning and a third as he got the loss.
Down 12-1 through six innings the Larks offense came to life scoring four runs off of Liberal reliever Thomas Garland. Hays got the scoring started with an RBI double by Jace Selsor and then two batters later Mikey Gangwish singled home a run and that was followed by a Trevor Boone two-run single making it 12-5 Liberal.

Bee Jays starter Jake Harrison allowed just one run on five hits over six innings to move to 2-0 on the season.
Zac Cook and Colton Onstott each drove in three runs in the win for Liberal.
Boone finished 2-for-5 with two RBI’s and Mikey Gangwish was 1-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored for the Larks.
Hays drops to 3-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Jayhawk League. They are off Monday before beginning a three-game series with Oklahoma City at Larks Park on Tuesday.
