Ellis County Fair entries due July 10

Hays Post

The Ellis County Fair is right around the corner.

All entries for open class and 4-H must be entered through the online entry process by midnight July 10.

Link to the online system by clicking here.

If you entered online last year, you can use the same username and password.

If you are new to the system, just create an account.

You can find the open class and 4-H fairbooks along with a fair entry help sheet by clicking here.

You will not be able to enter any items during the week of the fair.

Jill Pfannenstiel, fair board president, said although all entries must be registered online this year, people can seek in-person help at the Extension office to walk them through the registration process.

Pfannenstiel also highlighted several new classes that are being offered this year.

The 4-H division has a new $15 outfit class. Youth buy and assemble outfits from bargain stores or garage sales. They then model them for judges and go through an interview process on their pieces.

The fair is not just for 4-H youth. The Ellis County has many open classes for livestock, photography, food, knitting, fine arts and many more categories.

Pfannenstiel urged interested participants to check out the complete fairbook and rules online.

The open class has added dog agility and a costume contest for dogs. A new class for dairy cows has also been added.

Although it is not new, the fair will offer the popular barn quilt class again this year. Artists paint quilt patterns on large wooden sheets. Winners can compete in this division at the state fair.

Also not new to the fair but quite popular is the bedazzled bra competition, which promotes awareness of breast cancer. You do not have to wear a bra to participate in this competition. Fairgoers vote for their favorite bras by dropping donations into jars in front of the bras. Proceeds from the event go to the Cancer Society of Ellis County. Last year the project raised more than $200.

The fair runs July 15-23. July 15 and 16 will include races, and fair projects will start coming to the fairgrounds on Monday, July 17.

The Extension Office at 701 Main St. is available for help with entry registration or contact Pfannenstiel at [email protected]. Keep up with the latest fair announcements by liking the fair Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Ellis-County-Fair-317334115184
