OKLAHOMA CITY – The Hays Larks earned a doubleheader sweep of the Indians Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
Game 1: Oklahoma City 3, Hays 8
In game one Jace Selsor and Jonathan Soberanes drove in the first two runs of the game on a pair of RBI singles that put Hays up 2-0. Then with the bases loaded Clayton Harp delivered a grand slam giving Hays a 6-0 lead. Spencer Packard also homered in the inning for a 7-0 lead.
Larks starter Peyton Battenfield struck out seven over five shutout innings as the Larks get the 8-3 win.
Game 2: Hays 13, Oklahoma City 0
In game two the Larks scored in four of the first five innings on their way to a 13-0 win.
Soberanes got the scoring started with a solo homerun in the top of the first inning. After a single Spencer Packard delivered a two-run home run to give Hays a 3-0 lead.
The Larks added two runs in the second and three more in the third. With 8-0 lead Hays scored five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by three straight home runs by Colin Simpson, Spencer Packard and Clayton Rasbeary.
Simpson finished 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI’s and Spencer Packard was 3-for-5 with three runs driven in.
Larks starter Jake Norton struck out nine while walking four as he earned his first win over the season. Norton combined with Dylan Scheider to allow one hit.
The Larks are 14-6 overall and 14-5 in the Jayhawk League still two and a half games back of Liberal.
They go for the four-game sweep Thursday in Oklahoma City.
