April is Fair Housing Month

In celebration of the 44th anniversary of the 1968 landmark Fair Housing Act, Governor Sam Brownback has proclaimed April Fair Housing Month in Kansas. The Fair Housing Act is the federal law prohibiting discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, disability and familial status.

New for 2012, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the National Fair Housing Alliance have launched of a series of public service advertisements designed to teach individuals and families how to recognize and report discrimination.
