Hays Will Move Forward with Runway Project

A runway rehabilitation project is on tap at the Hays Regional Airport, but it may cost the city more than planned. The Federal Aviation Administration used to pay 95 percent of this type of project, but that has been changed to a 90-10 split with the local government. City Manager Toby Dougherty says it doesn’t look like the FAA is going to change that percentage.

Dougherty says the latest estimates have reduced the project cost from $13 million to about $9 million, which would make the city’s share approximately $900,000. Dougherty says the city can cover that cost, and the commission consented to putting the project out for bid.
