According to official statistics from the K-State Agricultural Research Center, the temperature in Hays fell 10 degrees during the peak of Monday’s total solar eclipse.

Although Hays was not in the path of totality, the sun was 94.6% occluded at 12:59 p.m.

By 2:27 p.m., it was back to normal in Hays with the full diameter of the sun’s disk emerging from behind the moon and the temperature resuming its way to a high of 92 degrees for August 21.

The next total solar eclipse will be visible in the United States on April 8, 2024, according to NASA. The last time a total solar eclipse occurred exclusively in the U.S. was in 1778.
