KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Twishana Williams (Lincoln) and Makayla McPhail (Fort Hays State) have been named MIAA Women’s Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 2-8 as selected by a conference SID panel.
MIAA WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Twishana Williams, Jr., Lincoln
Williams won three events at the CMU Invitational, leading Lincoln to a first-place team finish. The junior from St. Catherine, Jamaica, beat out 31 other runners the 1,500-meter run in 4:31.43, a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division II Championships, the only one in the MIAA in that event this season. Williams also won the 800-meter run in 2:15.62 and helped the 4×400-meter relay team to a first-place finish in 3:59.29.

MIAA WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Makayla McPhail, So., Fort Hays State
For the second time this season, McPhail threw an automatic qualifying distance in the javelin throw. This time, McPhail threw 150 feet, 11 inches to win the event by more than 20 feet over teammate Holly Brown. The sophomore from Liberal, Kan., currently has the second-best javelin throw in the nation this season, throwing 152 feet, 3 inches at the Alex Francis Classic two weeks ago. McPhail’s distance of 150 feet, 11 inches this week would rank her fourth in the country this season.
