Area churches are working through their denominations to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
The Hays First Presbyterian Church has organized a Help 4 Harvey campaign and is collecting supplies for cleanup buckets. Items will be taken at the church through Sunday, Sept. 10, when the church invites the public to help pack buckets for Houston at 11 a.m. Click here for a list of supplies that are needed.
That Sunday is the church’s kickoff for the worship season, and the public is also invited to join the church members for a picnic.
The church, 2900 Hall St, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and members of the public are encouraged to drop off supplies any time the church is open. For more information, call 785-625-2847.
The church is working with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Monetary donations can be made through the church or donate $10 directly to PDA by texting PDA to 20222. Find more about PDA’s Harvey’s response by clicking here.
A member of the church will be visiting her daughter in Dallas and will be delivering the supplies to Texas at that time.
Hays Trinity Lutheran Church is also encouraging members to donate to its denomination’s disaster relief organization. You can give at the church or make checks out to Lutheran Disaster Response and send to Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, ELCA Processing Center, PO Box 1809, Merrifield, VA 22116-8009. Write “Hurricane Response, United Stated” or “Lutheran Disaster Response, U.S.” on your check’s memo line.
