1 hospitalized after driver pulling a boat attempts u-turn on Kan. highway

BARTON COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in Barton County.

According to the Barton County Sheriff, a 2004 Chevy 1500 pickup towing a boat and trailer and driven by Gary Krainz, 57, West Bend, WI., attempted a U-turn on Kansas 156 near the Wetland Education Center.

A northbound 2006 International tractor-trailer combination driven by Donald Miller, 63, Haysville, was  unable to stop before colliding with the boat and trailer.

A passenger in the Chevy Jay Leudtke, 50, Grafton, WI., was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital for a head laceration, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.   The drivers were not injured.

All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to Bellendir.
