KHP still working to identify driver in crash that killed toddler

MEADE COUNTY—  Law enforcement authorities continue to investigate a fatal car crash that took the life of a toddler in Meade County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported just after 1a.m. Sunday, a 2001 Chevy Suburban was westbound on Meade County road V one mile west of Kansas 23.

The driver lost control around a curve. The vehicle traveled into the south ditch and rolled.

Two-year-old Felipe James Tomas of Friona, Texas, was transported to the Meade District Hospital where he died. The toddler was in a car seat and not buckled up, according to the KHP.

Authorities have not identified who was driving and on Monday are still interviewing those involved, according to Trooper Michael Racy.

Two others in the SUV Isabel Solis-Gomex, 23, and Vicente Tomas-Tino, 34, both of Friona, TX, were also transported to the hospital in Meade. They also were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
