The Hays City Commission made a few adjustments to their proposed economic development policy.
The commission has been working on a matrix that lays out the requirements for property tax abatements. After discussing not allowing more than a 50% abatement, Commissioner Troy Hickman suggested allowing 75% or 100% if the investment is high enough.
Under the latest proposal, a 100% abatement would require a $30 million capital investment and at least 250 new jobs. The commission has requested more information on potential wage requirements.
