HAYS – The Hays High Indians outscored William Chrisman 19-9 down the stretch in the fourth quarter to erase an eight-point deficit on their way to a 64-62 win over the Bears in the fourth-place game of the Gerald Mitchell Hays City Shootout Saturday at Hays Middle School.

Hays opened the game on a 12-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 10 but William Chrisman answered with an 11-2 run to tie the game at 14. Hays High lead by three at 19-16 after the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter with the Indians leading 24-18 the Bears closed the first-half on a 12-7 run and took their first lead of the game at halftime 30-28.
William Chrisman outscored the Indians 14-10 in the third quarter and built their largest lead of the game at nine leading 47-38 to start the fourth quarter.
With the Bears leading 48-41 the Indians went on a 16-6 run, led by Peyton Kieffer who scored the first eight points of the run, giving Hays a 57-54 lead. A William Chrisman three pointer with two minutes left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 57.
Hays outscored the Bears 7-5 over the final two minutes of the game on their way to a 64-62 win.
Kieffer led all scorers with a season-high 17 points. Tradgon McCrae and Ethan Nunnery each chipped in 14. Nunnery scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.
William Chrisman’s Zachariah Rowe had a game-high 18 points.
The Indians improve to 2-1 on the season. Hays High travels to Pratt on Tuesday.
