
The Hays High softball team scored 19 runs in a pair of run-rule wins over Liberal Tuesday at the Glassman Ballfields. The Indians win game one 14-0 in five innings and game two 15-0 in four innings to improve to 15-1 overall and 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Game 1: Hays High 14, Liberal 0 (5 innings)
Freshman Hannah Hearld allowed just one hit over the five innings, striking out seven and walking three to move to move to 9-1. Hearld was also big at the plate going 3-for-3 and driving in six. Her grand slam in the first put the Indians up 4-0. Paige Lunsford had two hits and drove in three and scored four times.
Game 2: Hays High 15, Liberal 0 (4 innings)
The Indians scored five in the first and four in the second to take control early. Paige Lunsford had another big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer and five RBI’s. Jillian Taylor added three hits and four RBI’s. Hannah Hearld pitched the first two innings allowing just one hit for the win and is now 10-1. Katelyn Schumacher struck out four of the six batters she faced working two perfect innings of relief.
