HAYS, Kan. – The Hays Eagles Senior American Legion had no problem Tuesday night, sweeping Dodge City 14-2 and 8-0 in their home opener at the Hays High Field.
Leading 3-1 after the first inning, the Eagles scored 11 in the second in a game that was called by run-rule in four innings. Brett Herrman and Aaryn Smith combine on a three-hitter. Braden Stouth doubled and drove in three.
The Eagles scored two in the fourth then five in the fifth in the second game. Carson Jacobs didn’t allow a hit over 2 1/3 innings for the win. Trey Riggs and Cody Peterson both drove in two runs as the Eagles improve to 6-1-1.
They head to Kansas City for the Legends Wood Bat Tournament starting Friday.
The Hays Eagles Junior American Legion swept Great Bend 13-0 and 9-1 in their home opener at Larks Park. Isaac Smith threw a one-hitter and Brock Lummus went 2-for-2 with a double in the first game.
Mason Prescott allowed one earned run over four innings for the win in game two. Josh Haynes went 3-for-3 at the plate.
The Junior Eagles improve to 3-3-1. They are back in action Wednesday hosting Minneapolis at in a six o’clock doubleheader at Larks Park.
