Three Ellis County Residents Killed in Rush County Accident

Three men died Tuesday night in an accident on K-4 in Rush County. The accident occurred three miles east of the junction with Highway 183 at about 8pm.

According to the Highway Patrol, a westbound pickup tried to swerve to avoid a tractor that was turning left into a field, but hit the tractor driven by 83-year-old Donald Hardy of Bison.

The driver of the pickup, 55-year-old Raymond Redding of Hays was injured and taken to Hays Medical Center. The three passengers were killed, 47-year-old Jose Villarreal and 35-year-old Ricky Hernandez both of Ellis and 36-year-old David Florian of Hays. None of them were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the tractor also was taken to Hays Medical Center.
