Commission Approves Courtyard Design

Looking solely at the historic nature of the building, the Hays City Commission Thursday night determined that removing the roof on the building next to Singers is not detrimental. The Kansas State Historical Society denied the request to remove the roof from the building, which is in the historic district, but the commission voted to overturn that decision.

There is a short period before the project can move forward during which protests can be filed.

This situation brought to light that the city does not require demolition permits. The city staff is working on recommendations for possible changes to the ordinance.
