TMP football earns first win of season

HAYS – The TMP Marian football team earned their first win of the season Friday night, 14-7 over the Ellis Railroaders at Lewis Field.

Both offenses struggled early with the Monarchs scoring the only touchdown of the first half with 24 second left in the second quarter. TMP put together a 12-play 66 yard drive that was capped off by a 12 yard touchdown pass from Carson Jacobs to Colby Dreiling. TMP led 6-0 at halftime.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter but the Monarchs took advantage of a short field at the end of the quarter and drove 48 yards in nine plays and took a 12-0 lead with 11:55 to play on a six yard Kaleb Hagans touchdown run. The two point conversion gave the Monarchs a 14-0 lead.

Hagans finished with 167 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries.

After the TMP touchdown Ellis took the ball right back down the field and scored on a Cade Lewis four yard touchdown run cutting the lead to 14-7 with 8:21 to play.

On the Monarchs next possession they put together a 10 play drive that took more than 5:00 off the clock. The TMP defense then forced Ellis to turn the ball over on downs securing the TMP 14-7 win.
